Signal Messenger brings the trusted private messaging experience of Signal to the Windows desktop, with a simplicity that allows you to seamlessly continue conversations back and forth between your mobile device and your Windows PC. This app now runs independently of your browser, so, if you’re a Firefox or Safari user, you don’t need to install Chrome to send and receive Signal messages on your computer anymore if you’re a Chrome user, having your browser open will no longer be synonymous with having free chat app open. There's plenty to do, but Signal's excellent security means it's already a good privacy choice.Signal Messenger is a fast, simple, private messenger app for Windows. Signal doesn't even require any user names, passwords or PINs - you just use your existing phone number and address book (which is easy, but keep in mind it also gives your phone number to every chat partner). End-to-end encryption protects everything you're doing from snoopers, even Signal's server doesn't have access to your communications, and the app is open-source so technical users can review the code to check what's going on. Wherever you're using it, Signal's major plus point is its security (the developer has even been endorsed by Edward Snowden). Open the desktop app and you'll find all the same conversations you've started on your mobile. You don't need to use both the Android and Chrome builds, but if you do, you'll find the two work well together. The app is the desktop version of the iOS/Android app, Signal Private Messenger, although it only connects to Android systems right now. Signal Desktop is a free desktop app for secure one-to-one or group chats, with support for file attachments and media sharing. I can draw anywhere.Īnyway, that’s what I’m using to make the Punkinz comic. Luckily for me I don’t need any of that because Clip Studio works on the iPad. Those things cost the same as a whole computer and require a computer to use but they allow you to draw on the screen and see the line as you draw it. Everything I did at work utilized the pen tool in Illustrator which I just used a mouse for.įast forward a decade or so and I had seen those new massive Cintiq’s in videos for animators and the hardcore illustrators for games. I never ever got used to that and quickly gave up on the concept of digital drawing. The first time I ever used a Wacom tablet was back in 2005, back when they were little 10 inch plastic tablets that you had to look at your computer screen while drawing to use. Controlling the lines you draw is far easier and going from thick to thin with pressure isn’t a nightmare. I can download free brushes that act like inking brushes should out of the box. Clip Studio was designed to make comics - period. Procreate is nice and clean and empty but lord help you find a setting or even think about adding text to something properly. Then when I started looking into drawing manga I noticed all the guys drawing stuff over in Japan were using a massive Cintiq tablet and a program called Clip Studio Paint.Ĭlip Studio looks like a knockoff of Photoshop, which totally helps because I can easily get to a billion settings where I know they should be. I knew that would happen so I kept trying and still ran into lots and lots of “undo” taps to get the line just right. When I first got the thing I did my best with Procreate but found it difficult to adjust to. I’m currently using an iPad Pro (the little one) and an Apple pencil. It’s hard to swap over and is basically relearning to draw. I see folks half my age on twitter and such who can flawlessly draw with a stylus and iPad but I spent the better chunk of 30 years doing everything with pen and ink on paper. I’ve got all 38 panels of the Punkinz comic ready to draw up and I’ve been practicing more with Clip Studio Paint. |
